Surving Fairy Kei in the Summer heat

It's that time of the year again where layers on layers and thick wigs are getting harder to wear. Fairy Kei is all about the layers which makes it seem impossible to wear during the summer however there are a few simple tips to surviving summer while wearing Fairy Kei.

Don't layer up too much, Your health is more important then getting a certain amount of layers!

Hair

It's best to keep the wigs to the side however if you do decide you still want to wear them, take a hair brush and a wig storage bag just in case it gets too hot and you decide you want to take it off. When its hot its best to stick to showing off your own hair whatever colour it is. You can easily make your real hair cute through srunchies, hair clips and more. Tying your hair up into bunches, odango, ponytails or even plaits help keep your hair of the back of your neck.

Shorts

For a cheap price, you can get mint coloured shorts in Primark which are perfect for the hot days. There are also a variety of stores online where you can get pastel shorts perfect for Fairy Kei. Click here to see the shorts in the picture on the right. The ones on the left are from bodyline.

Fans

Hand fans can help you cool down when in the heat. If you don't want an ordianary hand fan, you can get a variety of styles such as ones with anime characters printed on. For example, the fans in the picture on the right can be purchased here.

Short socks/Laced tights

If you want to, you can still wear OTK/Thigh high socks as you usually would but summer is the perfect chance to wear short socks (You can even buy cute frilly socks from brands such as Angelic Pretty) if you are confortable showing of your legs. If your not comfortable, wear a pair of laced tights under your socks.

Sleeves and dresses

Keep to short sleeves/ vest tops. Dresses are also another good option as they limit the amount of layers worn. Taobao is a good place to look for tops and dresses.

Wear suncream and keep hydrated!

Unless you want to get burned, remember to wear sun cream with whatever you are wearing! Also remember to keep hydrated, especially if your going to be inside a stuffy building or doing lots of walking. ♥The weather is getting hotter which means more people will be going to the beach. Staying Kawaii where ever you are, are what some people want so here are a few ways where you can still be Kawaii will sunbathing or playing in the sea.

Bikini's/Swim wear
What ever style you dress in,there's always a chance to have a Kawaii bikini. Japanese brands use frills, floral prints and ruffles on their designs.Varies Japanese brands feature Bikini's, including Dream V, a Kawaii and good priced Japanese brand which sell Bikini's that are perfect for Hime gyaru's and Sweet Lolita's. The sizes also fit larger sized girls.

♥Lip service also prodives swim wear perfect for Gyaru's. If your visitng Japan any time soon, Gyaru stores also show off their bikini's in the shop windows.

♥If your price range is slightly higher, liz Lisa has also brought out their own bikini's a while ago

♥For the Lolita's, brands, including BTSSB, has released specially swim wear with prints.

♥If you don't want to spend a lot or buy online, mainstream brands might be able to satisfy your Kawaii needs. For example Primark, Forever 21 and BHS supply swim wear.

Hats
Hat's protect you from getting too hot, so one way to stay Kawaii at the beach is to wear hats, from summer hats to hello kitty caps there are a lot of choices. Will the world of eBay, its easy to find them.

Towels
Kawaii towels are also easy to find, including Hello kitty (I own two hello kitty towels), Doreamon,Micky mouse and anime characters. You can find them in the factory shop (A UK based franchise- also where I got a pink hello kitty towel last year for £5),eBay and varies other stores.

Fans
Fans are a good way to keep you cool

Hairbands
When your in the water you don't want your hair to get wet so you can use Kawaii hair ties, to tie up your hair. Available from: etsy storenvy, bodyline, eBay and varies other stores.

Ice lolly's and drinks
Remember to stay hydrated while at the beach. Along the beach are always stores selling beach toys and refreshments so don't forget to have a drink or ice lolly if your feeling hot!

Parasols
A good parasol will act as a portable shade. The shop ergi has a cute selection of parasols.

Sunglasses
You can also find Kawaii sunglasses, including sunglasses with little bows. Claires has an area of sunglasses in most of your stores where you can find the perfect glasses to finish of your look.

Lolita in Summer

It's now summer and that means the weather will get hotter. Lolita consists of layer on layer which will seem like a nightmare in the summer! However there are a few easy tips for surving Lolita fashion (which ever substyle) in the summer.

Cutsews

Usually blouses are worn under JSKS, Salopettes and with skirts however in the summer there is a second option. Cutsews are casual t-shirts with a thin cotten material. They also come with Kawaii prints such as bunnys, ice cream and bows. Or if you want chiffon black cutsews are also available for Gothic Lolitas.

Shorts

Bloomers help with keeping you more hot. So instead in the summer skip the bloomers (No body should be able to see anyway) and wear shorts. Whether you wear pajama shorts, a casual pair of Fairy Kei shorts or just a pair of shorts with frills on.

Openshoes

Open shoes will give your feet more air which will cool you down. You can also wear tea partys but just try to avoid boots.

Sun cream

Sun cream helps protect our skin from Ultraviolet radiation which the sun sends out. It can also cause sun cancer.So to stay safe wearing sun cream can help.

Wear OPs

The less layers you wear the cooler you will feel. By wearing a one piece (OP) it will eliminate the cutsew or a blouse and you will feel better in the hot weather.

Lace tights/ short socks

If your comfortable with showing your legs, short socks such as the Angelic pretty socks pictured above can be used as over the knee/knee high/ thigh high socks feel really hot in the heat. If your not confortable with short socks you can also wear thin lace tights.

Fans

Electrical, battery or hand fans can be a big help in the summer! They give out a cool waves and also can look cute. You can also find them on eBay.

Parasols

Parasols create shade and also look adorable. Try to avoid the ones made out of lace, they do not create shade and just acts as a decoration (Know this from experience)

Take advantage of it being summer

As its summer its a great excuse to wear summer themed accessories or clothes such as strawberry shaped rings.

Hair

Avoid wigs if possible (They trap heat from your head) and try to hang your hair up. Depending on your hair length this will differ. If you want to wear a wig then try to wear a shorter wig. If you keep hair off the back of your neck, it will cool you down.

Sleeves
Try to stay away from short sleeves. If you do decide to wear long sleeves be prepared for your arms to feel warm. Chiffon blouses will be able to give your arms air.

Keep hydrated

In the summer it is important to keep hydrated by drinking lots of liquids. In the heat your body needs more water then usual otherwise you could collapse.

Sunhat

Sun hats will help protect your head from the heat, they can also look really cute.

Colours
Try to wear light colours, obviously with some sub-styles this may be difficult however wearing black and other dark colours will make you feel hotter.
