    So you want to host a Kawaii meetup? 

    One of the best things about being into Japanese fashion and Kawaii things is meeting other people who share your love for Japanese pop culture. So one way to meet new friends or just hang out with old is to go to a meetup. Today's post is a step by step guide to planning your own meetup! You can make your meetup a certain style (For example Gyaru or Lolita) however a way to meet new friends is to host one with all styles.

    So keep reading for ideas and general tips for a perfect meetup!
    Rules: 

    ♥If your going to have food around try to find out if anyone has any food allergies or if they are a vegetarian. 

    ♥Be as specific as possible (If your planning a meetup to watch Frozen at Odeon at 1pm and then go ice skating, then say!)

    ♥Try to speak to everyone
    ♥At the start of the meet it is a good idea for everyone to introduce themselves and say there name (Or nickname/online alias)

    Bringing a +1 

    It can be nerve wrecking going to your first meetup when you don't know anyone so you can bring a +1 for safety.

     However there are certain things your +1 should know before getting to the meet up. 

    Don't force them to dress up in Japanese fashion if they don't want to. 

    Try to tell them what they can't say (For example, "Nice costume" or "What anime are you from?") Comments like that won't go that well! If your bringing your other half try to keep PDA down. 



    A few ideas:

    A picnic. Find somewhere nice outside (Or inside if its raining or snowing) and set up a picnic area with pastels, delicious treats, Arpakasso's and cute plushies. 

    Ice skating (Obviously you need a ice rink to be able to do this!) 

    Shopping 

    Watch a movie at the cinema 

    A visit to an aquarium 

    If you are suspecting a large amount of people going (For example 20) you might want to reserve some places.




    Guests 

    You need to invite your guests. One of the best ways is making an open Facebook event and posting the links on varies online Lolita or Kawaii facebook pages. Another good idea (Which I should of done at my last meet) is hand out/swap your phone number to the other people attending so if someone or you are late, you can contact them. 



    Cost

    Everything in the world costs money. It's different for each activity however its a good idea to inform your guests of more information. For example if you have decided on a restaurant, give out the basic price of the food (For example if everything is under £3 or under £10) 





    Pictures

    Since a lot of effect and time (And sometimes money- especially Hime and Lolita, as they are pricey) has gone into getting ready its a good idea to take a few pictures and is a good way to remember the meetup. They are also a good opportunity to make Kawaii pictures such as making hearts with your hands!

    Last Saturday was the day of the Event of Dee-con. Scotland's largest Free comic convention. I went to the event last year. It was my 1st ever convention. And because its near by I decided to get myself along to the event.

    Since last year I have connected more with other like minded convention goers so I was very lucky to share my Train journey with a sweet Lolita .

    My outfit was Black shorts in a dungaree style , bunny knee high style tights with a Heart Blouse and blue blazer and red cat ear hat with Red matching High tops. Thankfully it was not a rainy day for the event just a few showers here and there so I did not get wet. However the event is indoors so you could shelter inside if need be.

    The Event did not Start till Noon and was located at DUSA Union. Which was a mere 5-10min walk away from the Rail Station. The Event covered 5 floors. From Artist Alleys, Retro Gaming, Card Gaming and merch-stalls. It is way to easy to spend to much money at these conventions. How ever I was very good and only spend a little amount of money.

    When we arrived we were stopped by a local Photographer who wanted to take our photos. I was only wearing a simple but bright outfit and was rather shocked to be asked. I agreed to have my photo taken as did my Lolita friend. Both together and on our own.

    As we got near to the main building which housed the event, the queue was intense.It must have double back on its self a few times.We must have been in the queue for 10 mins waiting and then a further 10 mins getting in to the place.

    It was packed,As soon as you walked in. I explored all the levels and checked out the stalls, The Artist Alley is the bit I like a lot and I picked up a few pieces from the same artist as last year. There is a good few stalls that sell some goods and products such as Anime merchandise and manga. Others stuff included hand made items and accessories.

      The Lay out was a bit more flowing than last years apart from the lowest level, for some reason its so packed up.
    I found myself standing for 5 mins trying to move,I have no idea why this happens even last year it was packed and you felt stuck and unable to move.  I retreated to a higher level of seating area to get some photo's.

     Outside was the best place for photos. Am sure a lot of cosplayer's took this as a advantage to get some photos take of their outfits.I really should have hung about outside to meet more people and snap some shots. There was also at the top level a local photographer who had a pop up studio that was taking bookings for those who wanted photos of their cosplay's and outfits . Which was really fun to be a on looker watching how the were enjoying posing with the outfits and acting in character.

    I noticed there was much more going on this year than to last year's. There was a great atmosphere too. I spotted many Lolita's from the local community,each one was dressed so well. I noticed and recognized some cosplay.

    Overall it was a good day out, its a great convention for any 1st time convention goers. I do regret not getting more photos and footage, but there is many more conventions to come. I did not stay till the end but there was also a after party for later in the evening.

    During the day there was some  Anime films being shown that you could go in and watch. There was lots of Games to play, Table top Games were set up, Arcades and even some retro ones. Even some tournaments where set up for Gamers.
    A area of Games development and even talks such as '' Being proud of your inner Geek.'' Also there was a Kendo Performance Display and a Cosplay Masquerade and competition . So You could easily stayed
    on till the early hours of Sunday with the after party!

    Dee-con is a good sized convention, its nice to have a convention near by. I would say its a great convention to attend for your 1st time and then a great way to meet up with others who have the same interests. Its a nice way to ease you into the cosplay and convention world. Once you get the bug for it, that's you hooked.

    I was waved down or called over to say Hello or for a chat by many kawaii readers and folks I know of via facebook and on my blog. I was so shocked by this and quite overwhelmed. Every one I met was lovely. I look forward to next years and for my upcoming events. I hope to see some of you again and meet new faces of Kawaii! So watch this space!

    Dee Con 2014! ~ Olivia
    Hey! On Saturday I was lucky enough to attend Dee Con! Scotland's largest free anime, games and cosplay convention! I was a little bit unsure of what to expect as it was my first time at any kind of convention!

    It was a dull morning but I was up at the crack of dawn sorting out my outfit and getting ready to go! i wasn't cosplaying because I wore a "Sailor Lolita" Coord.

    When we arrived I was super shocked at the queue to get in! I loved looking at all the cosplays I think my favourite was the Adventure Time cosplays and the Loki one too!
    It was Jam Packed inside! People had to turn sideways to get through the doors because their cosplay outfit was too big!
    When we finally got in from the rain (which made my hair extra frizzy) we went upstairs to the games! They had all sorts of consoles from the 80's, 90's and now! My favourite was the Nintendo '64 just because I own one myself! People had their 3ds' and were playing Animal Crossing and Pokemon too!
    They have all sorts of games competitions aswell.



                           Then we went to my favourite bit - THE STALLS!
    So much KAWAII!! I wanted everything and I would have had it if my mum (AKA my personal bank) wasn't with me. She kept saying how I didn't need Sailor Moon plushies or a Puella Magi Madoka Magica poster - Of course I needed them. But I never got them, I got a manga caricature of myself and a Sailor Moon book!

    There were so many amazing people who I spoke too about the Anime I watched, When did I start watching it, What games did I play and more! People kept complementing what I was wearing and saying how pretty I looked! I couldn't stay late as we were babysitting so we went home. I wish I was older so I could stay for the after party but you have to be over 18! Oh well, All I know is that I will definitely be there next year!

    Kawaii-B All About: Gyaru in the UK
    Kawaii style,  it’s starting to become ever popular within the UK. With many various categories of styles popping up within the UK it’s always good to keep an eye out  and see what’s forming in the community. From Lolita to Fairy Kei, yet one category of fashion that appears just as commonly as those mentioned is Gyaru.
    Gyaru (a Japanese translation of  Gal) a Japanese street fashion has gained popularity among girls here in the UK. Taking inspiration from the famous stores within Shibuya 109 and bringing it over to UK. Over time numerous girls have searched through Japanese various magazines such as Egg, Ranzuki and Popteen.

    Whilst there are many categories of Gyaru styles as within Kawaii fashion, each one holds it's own means of the kawaii factor. From the old style of Ganguro to the newer styles of Himegyaru. Each one unique and able to fit to any girls preference of style.     

    The UK has a growing community of gals who help one another and are keen to spread the word of Gyaru fashion to boys or girls willing to find out what it is all about. London has a small community of these individuals who create meet ups for the Gyaru girls (referred to as Gaijin Gyaru) around the UK to come and mingle with one another. Within the month of February a recent meet up was held within London. 

     A large gathering of uniquely dressed gals from the very kawaii Hime style to more intense style of Manba. Each different and each unique yet all holding the kawaii factor.  A day consisting of laughs and talks. The day plan filled with social gathering at a cafe for drinks, restaurant for food and the ever popular purikura session.
