    Kawaii-B All About: Fairy Kei

    Fairy kei is a Japanese street fashion style, that has recently exploded in popularity all across the world. With its sweet pastel colour palette similar to that of sweet lolita, it is all about being cute, sweet and you guessed it... fairy like! 



    Fairy Kei often includes elements of Decora and is often confused with the Pop Kei and Party Kei styles, but they all have their staples which set them apart. Fairy kei is not the same as Pop Kei!

    Fairy Kei outfits are made up almost purely of pastels, including light pink, blue, yellow and purple as the most common. White is also used to balance out candy colours. Darker colours are almost never seen as part of a fairy kei outfit.

    Fairy Kei looks often also include elements of the 80's like leg warmers, and vintage cutesy designs like Barbie, Care Bears, Polly Pocket and other characters. These often cross over into Pop Kei and Spank! type outfits as well. Let's just take a quick look at the difference between these!



    Clashing patterns and darker colours including black, shows a pop kei kind
    of look to these outfits. The graphic patterns add to the "pop" feel, even though the girl on the
    left has fairy coloured accessories and skirt.
    The inclusion of darker purples, as well as black tell us this isn't
    a fairy kei outfit, but what makes this Spank! look is the vintage jumper, but
    most of all the polka dot skirt. Spank! style is also more to do with
    wearing pre-owned clothing as opposed to brand new.
    This outfit is typical Fairy Kei. What make this fairy kei, is the all pastels
    colour palette, and the fluffy and floaty textures of the skirt and jumper.

    One more style often confused and mixed in with Fairy Kei is Cult Party Kei. Cult Party Kei is all about layering
    floaty skirts, dresses and outer garments. Often with a very light coloured palette, and include a lot of chiffon!
    Of course it is up to you how you wear a style! Mixtures of Pop, Cult and Fairy Kei are very common, but now you know how to tell them apart!

    So when building you fairy outfit, don't just focus on colour, think about texture. Also, oversized garments and jumpers add a really cute look especially if the jumper is fluffy. Or even a fluffy pastel scarf can add a different texture and feel to your outfit!

    Fairy Kei Haul - Accessories
    Last week I had the chance to do some shopping in Glasgow, something which I rarely get to do so I always stock up on clothing. And this time was no different!
    As I got so many things I’m breaking my haul blog into three parts and as the title suggests here I will be showing you what accessories I got. And also telling you where I got them so you can own them too!


    All items shown are from the high street and very affordable! Shown are cute things from Primark, Topshop and H&M!


    I saw these super cute things for my nails as normally I am very lazy and they never look cute. I’m going to try harder on them!
    The packs of false nails are from Primark’s beauty section and were only £1 each so of course who could resist?! They have many other styles but these two were my favourite!
    Topshop has a section with tons of colours of nail polish and so many of them are pastels! I spotted this pink one for £6 and decided it was perfect! They had on a special offer where they would apply a beauty product for you to try out so I had my nails done then proceeded to ruin them while shopping….


    Next up is the perfect products for baby cute pink lips! First it a cute almost clear glitter lip gloss from H&M for only £1 and I love it! It’s not just the right amount of glitter for my liking.
    Then is a lip gloss crayon from Primark. Sadly it was barely pink and more clear but did give a nice gloss effect. And for £1.50 it is pretty good.
    And my new favourite lipstick is this one from Topshop for £8 and is called Innocent. It is a lovely pink colour! Sadly I couldnt get decent swatches of it so I’ll post a good swatch from online below!

    Finally I got both of these in H&M for £1 each!
    The collar is so cute! It has a clasp at the front and little pearls on it. And the A of course stands for Aya and is an iron on that I hope to put on one of my jumpers!

    So this concludes the first part of my haul! Stay tuned for footwear next!

    Everyone is raving about this super-cute idol, that almost every kawaii girl wishes they could be! But just who is she? And what's her story?

    Kiriko Takemura is Kyary's real name, and she was born on January 29, 1993 in Tokyo. She is most famously known of course by her stage name Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. She is now both a Japanese model and J-Pop recording artist, not only famous in Japan, but all over the world for her out-there fashion sense and spectacular live shoes and music videos.

    Her image is centered around Japan's kawaisa and decora culture, which originates from Harajuku, a neighborhood Tokyo, famous for its fashion trends. Kyary has admitted that she was actually born into a strict family as an only child. Her parents weren't big fans of her outrageous dress sense, and in her autobiography Oh! My God!! Harajuku Girl, she talks about how she would often have to sneak out with her outfits hidden in a bag, then change into them later, so her Mother wouldn't find out.


    Kyary's journey began as a fashion blogger, and she later became a professional model for Harajuku fashion magazines such as Kera! and Zipper. After gaining sizable fame, Kyary collaborated with the Eyemazing company to produce a line of fake eyelashes called " and also began appearing in local fashion shows.

    Kyary explains that her stage name came from originally wearing blonde wigs to school, and after that, a friend began calling her "Kyari" (a phonetic Japanese spelling of the Western name "Carrie") and the name stuck. Kyari also took dance lessons at a young age, and expresses she always loved to dance.

     In July 2011, Kyary released her first promo single "PonPonPon", and explained that Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry were here inspirations at the time. The music video for "PonPonPon" a bright, fun and almost psychedelic tribute to kawaisa and Decora culture, became a viral hit, which then led to it being reported on by MTV and even The Huffington Post. Kyary was catapulted almost instantly into super-stardom.
