All About: Otome Kei

All About: Otome Kei

What is Otome Kei?
The word "Otome" means "Young lady" in Japanese.

This street style has an feminine, cute look, focusing on dressing like a young lady as the name may suggest.

Lolita's occasionally change to dressing in Otome since there are no strict rules or guidelines to follow.

Otome is often mistaken for Casual Lolita. However there are a few differences

This graph from the FyeahOtome tumblr blog shows what makes an Otome and an Lolita oufit, so its easier to tell if your co-ord is more Casual Lolita than Otome.

Each outfit is unique to the wearer. Otome is more about the feel you get from the outfit than the actual clothes.

A few Brands:

Emily Temple Cute , MilkJane MarpleShirley TempleMiss patinaMulberry chronicles

Items from Lolita brands and offbrands can

easily be incorporated into an Otome outfit.

What’s the difference between otome kei and lolita fashion?

In Lolita a petticoat is required to make the shape of the bell skirt, and create the distinctive look. However Otome is more toned down and there are fewer rules to what makes an outfit Otome kei, giving the wearer more freedom.

An Otome outfit can also include trousers, colours can be mismatched or matching, the feel of the outfit is more comfortable, while still looking cute and

lolita-eqsue.

    Spreepicky Review: Seifuku

    Spreepicky Review: Seifuku
Spreepicky is a store on Storenvy that focuses on selling clothes and accessories from Taobao. The clothes are either cosplay related with occasional anime merchandise or Japanese street fashion. They also offer artist applications so fans can be payed to design adorable prints for tee's, phone cases or more. They offer world wide free shipping as well as sizes for a range of sizes.Spreepicky was founded in August 2013 "with the idea of picking customers the best cute fashion with lower cost and best shopping experience"
    Facebook // Storenvy

The first item I ordered from Spreepicky, was this printed seifuku.
Sakura (Cherry Blossom) prints are really cute so when I found this I decided to buy it quickly.
There is a variety of sizes so make sure you double check your size before you buy. This seifuku so far is only available in pink.

The second item I got was this plain seifuku in pink.
Although I got it in Pink (Pink is taking over my life ^^) you can also get it in a variety of colours such as purple, green, red, black, blue, green and pink. The price is $19.99 (About £12.50) along with free shipping which is a good price.

Here are both of the Seifuku's I brought. The labels are cutely shapped like a wing, Reminds me of the CardCaptor Sakura wing >.< There's really cute messages on the packaging such as:
In general the packaging gives of the idea of magical girls (A weakness of mine)

The first seifuku I will be reviewing is the Sakura Print one
The colour turned out really pretty. The bow is also detachable which means you can change bows if you would like. I found the Seifuku a little thin so be-careful when you wear it. The Sakura Print is really pretty and clear.

The next seifuku is this plain pink one. The colour is a cute tone of pink that's slightly brighter then pastel pink.

The bow is also a good size, its not too big and not too small.

Included in the parcel was also a free golden necklace which was too small to picture but it was really pretty. I gave it to a good friend of mine! Also included was a postcard from the old but well-known Mahou shoujo series, Sailor Moon.

The message from the seller was really sweet!

Plus the business card! It's really cute!

Personally I found the seifuku's a little too thin, however for the price they are not bad quality at all. The customer service was sweet and friendly.

In conclusion, Spreepicky has a wide variety of products as well as being friendly, and as long as you are looking for special occasion wear and high quality, long wear garments - I recommend!

Have you ever ordered from SpreePicky? If so share your experience with us!

    Surviving Fairy Kei In Summer

    Temmuz 17, 2015 0
    Surviving Fairy Kei In Summer

Surving Fairy Kei in the Summer heat

It's that time of the year again where layers on layers and thick wigs are getting harder to wear. Fairy Kei is all about the layers which makes it seem impossible to wear during the summer however there are a few simple tips to surviving summer while wearing Fairy Kei.

Don't layer up too much, Your health is more important then getting a certain amount of layers!

    Hair

It's best to keep the wigs to the side however if you do decide you still want to wear them, take a hair brush and a wig storage bag just in case it gets too hot and you decide you want to take it off. When its hot its best to stick to showing off your own hair whatever colour it is. You can easily make your real hair cute through srunchies, hair clips and more. Tying your hair up into bunches, odango, ponytails or even plaits help keep your hair of the back of your neck.

    Shorts

For a cheap price, you can get mint coloured shorts in Primark which are perfect for the hot days. There are also a variety of stores online where you can get pastel shorts perfect for Fairy Kei. Click here to see the shorts in the picture on the right. The ones on the left are from bodyline.

    Fans

Hand fans can help you cool down when in the heat. If you don't want an ordianary hand fan, you can get a variety of styles such as ones with anime characters printed on. For example, the fans in the picture on the right can be purchased here.

    Short socks/Laced tights

If you want to, you can still wear OTK/Thigh high socks as you usually would but summer is the perfect chance to wear short socks (You can even buy cute frilly socks from brands such as Angelic Pretty) if you are confortable showing of your legs. If your not comfortable, wear a pair of laced tights under your socks.

    Sleeves and dresses

Keep to short sleeves/ vest tops. Dresses are also another good option as they limit the amount of layers worn. Taobao is a good place to look for tops and dresses.

    Wear suncream and keep hydrated!

Unless you want to get burned, remember to wear sun cream with whatever you are wearing! Also remember to keep hydrated, especially if your going to be inside a stuffy building or doing lots of walking. There is also wide variety of Kawaii water bottles such as the ones in the picture above which you can find here. For more Kawaii water bottles, you can find more here

    Some cool outfit ideas:

That's it for todays short guide on surving the summer heat while wearing Fairy Kei. Any comments or questions? Post below
